An IBM mainframe operator monitors and controls the health and functionality of large, mission-critical mainframe computer systems. Companies do demand these skills on contract basis.
We are looking for IBM Contract Operators fot leading sites as have new supplier deals.
System monitoring: Operators observe the mainframe system's performance and status through system consoles and monitoring tools, watching for unusual conditions, errors, and alerts.
Workload management: They start and stop system tasks and batch jobs according to the production schedule, working with production control staff to ensure all tasks are completed correctly.
Troubleshooting: They respond to system alerts and troubleshoot issues to minimize disruptions. They analyze system logs and error messages and coordinate with other teams, like system programmers, to resolve technical problems.
System maintenance: Operators perform orderly shutdowns and startups of the operating system and its subsystems, including databases like DB2 and transaction processing systems like CICS.
Batch job supervision: They oversee the execution of scheduled jobs, particularly batch processing, and intervene if a job fails or requires intervention.
Communication and coordination: They serve as a liaison between the mainframe and other IT teams, including developers, administrators, and support staff, to coordinate system changes and resolve incidents.
Data and backup management: They help manage data integrity by supervising system backups and following established operational procedures.
